FLINT, MI – By Eric Goodyard – Detroit Pistons forward Tobias Harris paid a visit to students, ages 7-17, from the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Flint on Thursday.

He joined Vic Vercherau, VP of Marketing for Farm Bureau Insurance of Michigan, to give local kids a day to remember.

“Just being here for the kids and stressing the importance of reading and bettering education,” Harris said. “So mostly just for the kids and being here with a great group of people is a great experience for me, too,”

With March being designated as National Reading Month, Harris participated in reading sessions, games, and a Q&A then challenged the teenagers to a short story contest.

Harris and Vercherau judged the best stories.

“Just strive to be the best you can be and never give up,” Harris tells Flint kids.

The Pistons acquired Harris from the Orlando Magic in exchange for Brandon Jennings and Ersan Ilyasova in February. Harris averages 16.7 points, 5.8 rebounds and 2.6 assists for Detroit since the trade.

“I love it,” Harris said of joining the Pistons. “It’s a great city, great fans, and a great team to be part of. I’m blessed and happy to be here.”

Detroit will host the Charlotte Hornets next at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 25 in The Palace of Auburn Hills.
